Folks have asked me how best to tell their mission story if its core is a highly
\nsensitive subject. And who should tell the story?<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>One subject that deeply resonates with me is mental health.
\nI\u2019ve been a volunteer for the American Foundation for Suicide
\nPrevention<\/a> for the past four years, helping people register at the Out of the Darkness Walk<\/em>\u00a0of AFSP’s\u00a0Illinois Chapter<\/a>.\u00a0\u00a0I\u2019ve always been inspired by the outpour of love and support at this annual event.<\/p>\n

With support from The Jed Foundation, the Ad Council and numerous donors and
\nvolunteers, AFSP recently launched a national campaign, \u201cSeize the Awkward<\/a>.\u201d
\nThe goal of this campaign is to empower teens and young adults to reach out and
\nhelp a friend who may be struggling with their mental health.<\/p>\n

\"AFSP\"<\/a><\/p>\n

\u201cSeize the Awkward\u201d provides information and tips for starting that<\/i> essential conversation with a friend. It does so in a light tone without diminishing the seriousness and urgency of the situation. It works because it\u2019s simple, honest and touches on what teens and young adults\u2013and even what the rest of us\u2013experience every day.<\/p>\n

And, they feature actual stories<\/a> from a few who \u201cknow how it feels.\u201d<\/p>\n
